Abstract

In addition to increasing heart rate, blood pressure, heart rate variability, and artery narrowing, nicotine use can lead to addiction in some users. Smokers who are actively smoking run the risk of developing health issues due to the nicotine inhaled in cigarette smoke, as do passive smokers. The purpose of the study was to use the rapid test method to examine the urine of passive smokers to determine if they had been exposed to nicotine.

This kind of qualitative descriptive study involved a 10- to 18-year-old population from Bintau Village with a 10-year exposure level. A purposive sampling technique was used. Urine samples from 30 respondents who fulfilled inclusion criteria were collected and examined using the rapid test.

The results of research on Nicotine in Urine using the rapid test method on passive smokers in the community of Bintau Village, West Passi District, on 30 respondents who were passive smokers aged 10 to 15 years, 24 people (80%), high school education level, 13 people (43.3%), type gender Female 16 people (53.3%) who share a household with more than 1 active smoker, 14 people (46.7%) exposed for more than 10 years 30 people (100%); The results of the rapid test showed negative exposure to nicotine in the urine of all passive smokers.
