Abstract

Breastfeeding as the baby's first food is still lacking, leaving problems for postpartum mothers regarding how to increase breast milk (ASI) production. One plant that can increase milk production is papaya leaves. The aim of this study was to identify the benefits of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) on milk production in postpartum mothers based on a literature review. This research method is literature review with a descriptive design. Data obtained from Google Engine database using PRISMA Analysis. The keywords were papaya leaves, breast milk in postpartum mothers. Documents filtered from Pubmed, Researchgate, and Google Scholar, for the last five years (2016-2021). Other supporting data are official documents from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, or the world health agency (WHO). The results of a literature analysis of ten journals according to the inclusion criteria (ASI, papaya leaves, postpartum mothers) showed that giving papaya leaves (Carica Papaya L.) can increase milk production by processing it starting from being consumed as a vegetable, drink, papaya leaf extract, steeping the leaves papaya in powder form according to the needs of postpartum mothers. One of the easy and effective processing is stir-fry which is consumed for 10 days. The conclusion is that the intervention of giving papaya leaves is effective in increasing milk production in postpartum mothers and can be used while the mother is breastfeeding until the baby is 6 months old.
