Abstract

Hyperuricemia was the condition of increased uric acid production in the body. Excessive uric acid levels in the blood caused the deposition of uric acid crystals. The aimed of this study was to determine the effect of sesewanua leaf extract on reducing uric acid levels in high purine diet-induced white rats. This research was experimental research. As an inductor of uric acid, 10% chicken liver juice was used for 7 days. The test animals were divided into three treatment groups, 1st group was given sesewanua leaf extract (0.5 g/kg BW), 2nd group was given Allopurinol (27 mg/kg BW), and 3rd group was given vehicle (PGS 2%) as a negative control. The treatments were given from day 8th to day 11th. On the 12th day, all experiments animal were re-measured their blood uric acid levels, using the uricase/peroxidase method. Data of uric acid levels were presented in graphical form, then analyzed descriptively. Our study results were sesewanua leaf extract at a dose of 0.5 g/kg BW may reduce blood uric acid levels in high purine diet-induced white rats.
