Abstract

Background:Labor is often perceived as frightening and cause extreme pain. Some mothers are also traumatized by their first childbirth due to various kinds of difficulties and pain during childbirth so that they are reluctant to plan for having a child again. Labor pain is caused by uterine contraction, cervix and lower segment of uterine dilation. Pain can be treated with pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. Back massage with Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is one kind of non pharmacological methods to reduce pain.
Objective:To understand the effect of back massage with VCOon pain intensity of active phase of 1st stage Labor at Momalia Public Health Center South Bolaang Mongondow
Method:This is a quassi-experimental study with one group pre and posttest design which done to 20 samples, data was collected with observational form filled by researcher by doing an interview to respondent before and after getting back massage. Data was analyzed with Wilcoxon Signed rank Test.
Result:This study shows that on average the respondent’s pain intensity before get back massage was 6.7 and decrease to 3.7 after getting back massage with P-value = 0,001 (P< 0.05)Conclusion:Back massage with VCO is effective to decrease pain intensity of 1st stage active phase labor at Momalia Public Health Center Bolaang Mongondow Selatan. We advisingback massage with VCO to be a standardized health services as a new approach in labor pain management.
