Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by high levels of insulin, work insulin or both.
Currently diabetes treatment is beginning to switch to traditional medicines, one of which is ginger
which is widely known as one of the spices. This research was conducted from May to June 2017.
This type of quasi research with pretest and posttest one group design with sample of 46 people
fulfilling inclusion criteria. Primary data such as respondent identity, weight, height, blood sugar level
and total respondents total respondents by interview and direct measurement in capillaries. While
secondary data in can from health center archives. The tools used are the tools that are easy to touch,
scales, microtois, identity form respondents, the form of total measurement results, stationery and
SPSS program. The result of paired t test of blood sugar level before and after administration of red
ginger boiling water obtained p value <0.001 with average is 54,979 mg / dl. While total cholesterol
before and after administration of red ginger boiling water obtained p value <0.001 with an average of
5.809 mg / dl. There is a significant difference to red ginger boiling water to blood sugar and
cholesterol levels.
